A Sample of the work, Events and Projects
COORDINATED AND/OR SPONSORED BY TEPA
Women’s history month
Inspired by the slideshow for Black History Month, TEPA offered the lobby of 111 East 22nd Street a slideshow for the screen. The École complimented the slideshow with a playlist of women musicians.
Black history month
In 2022, TEPA offered the lobby of 111 East 22nd Street a slideshow for the screen and small posters to adorn the walls. Each student at 111 were offered unity bracelets and/or bookmarks. At Maternelle, each student was offered a book about Charlie Parker and/or a Rosa Parks bus activity. ALL École students were offered a cornbread treat with a blurb explaining the significance of this food in Black American culture.
Annual Lunar New Year Performance
Dragon Dance
Each year, TEPA sponsors a Lunar New Year performance for all students. Most often it has been the Dragon Dance,. The Dragon Dance is always a big hit with the students.
Red envelopes
In addition to the performance, each student receives a red envelope with a treat inside. All of this is made possible due to the collaboration with The École’s Mandarin Teacher, Annie Huang.
Annual Galette de rois
Each year, TEPA offers galette to all children of The École for the French Holiday Galette de Rois. This is a delicious treat and activity loved by children across France. Click here for more info on this French tradition. This year TEPA bought apple galette (nut-fee) from Bread Story, one of our new favorite NYC French Bakeries.
The Thunderbird
American Indian Dancers
Since 2021, TEPA and The École have been inviting The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers to perform for our children. This year, they shared their dances, music and stories with the 2nd and 3rd grade. Native American history is a part of the social studies curriculum for these students, and The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers helped it to come alive. Videos of the performances were made available to all other grades.
2021 End-of-Year EVENT AND Project
AN INSIDE OUT PROJECT
The hallways were filled with giant portraits of The École Students. This was part of an Inside Out Project titled “Surviving COVID in School.” The project goal was to celebrate and acknowledge the adults who worked hard, children who thrived with strict protocols and families who collaborated. The project was created in collaboration with the studio of French photographer and street artist, JR.
